I
‘m a Strzelecki Koala from South Gippsland.
We are the most important koala population remaining in Victoria and South Australia and I’m a direct descendent of the original Victorian koala gene pool. All other populations throughout VIC and SA are the result of koala translocations from a handful of animals sent to French Island in the late 19th century.
Strzelecki Koalas may hold the key for the survival of the species in Australia, as koala populations in QLD and NSW continue to succumb to a variety of environmental problems.
